Last week at adaptive aquatics one of the kids had an “accident” in the pool. This conflict lead to other conflicts. The pool was considering putting adaptive aquatics on a ban. They even considered not letting adaptive aquatics continue at the RB. This conflict all developed as a result of lack of communication between the child and the student who was supervising him. If there had been communication before the accident happened then the secondary conflict would have never developed. This secondary conflict was resolved by communication and adaptive aquatics is allowed to “swim” on.
I have learned that you just need to communicate with all those around you especially when you are a leader.
Wow! I like how you directly applied the lecture into your blog. Communication is so important in solving conflicts, and it is crazy how a little "accident" can almost lead to a shut down of the program! I think sometimes people don't communicate with others effectively because they are afraid of the consequences of a little "accident" and when there is no communication the problem gets totally blown out of porportion.
ReplyDeleteYou do an awesome job applying each leadership attribute to your leadership role.
ReplyDeleteCommunication is essential when it comes to solving conflicts. Most of the time, we get into conflicts because of lack of communication in the first place. Great application to your leadership role! Just as you saw by example, communication will lead to conflicts being resolved. It is sometimes hard to communicate and solve a conflict, but when everything is said and done it is worth it.
